A wonderful thing about having wine making as your hobby is that there are so many choices when it comes time to decide which wine to make. The first choice is between making red wine or white wine. However it is not that simple. You have lighter reds and full body red wines. You have blends of reds and whites and you have blends of full bodied reds and lighter reds. How you manage your choice can add greatly to your enjoyment of your wine hobby.

White wines come from the grape varieties around the world that produce these various types of wine. The grape varieties that yield white wine tend to come from the cooler regions of the world, as opposed to the red wine grape varieties that thrive in warm climates. Most of these regions are in the northern hemisphere but some white grape wine varieties are grown in the southern hemisphere too, most notably in South Africa. There are many cool days and nights there as well.
