You do your best to watch your weight and avoid fattening foods, but sometimes that isn’t always enough to keep off the pounds. The problem could be that you’re eating foods that appear healthy but are really filled with sugar and fat.

Knowing that fish is good for us, we might then conclude that if we eat sushi we are staying on track. This can be true, but not always. Sushi is a delicious meal but some versions contain hidden fat and calories. I’m referring to popular sushi rolls that include ingredients like cream cheese or mayonnaise.

Some sushi includes fattening fish that has been battered and friend. So, you can’t just order any sushi on the menu and be sure that it’s good for you. Read their ingredients and ask how they are prepared. To be safe, order basic sushi rolls, like salmon, tuna or crabmeat.

Another deceptive food is dried fruit. Dried fruit seems like it would be the perfect choice for a dieter but if you think about it, it’s really not because it is denser than fresh fruit and contains hidden calories. Additionally, there are some brands that make their dried fruit even more fattening by adding sugar. Your best bet is to skip the dried fruit and eat it when it’s fresh.

Now let’s talk about granola. This is one health food store staple, that often promotes it’s self as good for you. Granola can be healthy, but the products found in stores usually aren’t. This is because some prepackaged granola contains added sugar. Your best bet is to make your own with oatmeal, fruit and some honey if you like it a little sweet.

The food deceptions don’t stop there. There are some lunch items that also have hidden fat and calories, such as the veggie burger.

Sure, veggie burgers don’t contain the fat and cholesterol of meat burgers but they have other issues. Many veggie burgers include fattening cheese and dressing that holds the patty together. These add many unwanted calories. Knowing this, it’s a good idea to only eat veggie burgers occasionally.

If you want to stay fit and looking good it’s important to make the right food choices along with regular exercise. Pay attention to what you eat and you will see results.
